Transport the NATO cargo via Klaipėda Seaport
On 26 January 2010 Director for Infrastructure Vidmantas Paukštė attended a meeting regarding possibility to transport NATO transit cargo via Klaipėda Seaport that took place in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania. New NATO agreements with transit countries which create a possibility to transport non-military cargo by railways via “Northern supply line“ (LOC) through Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Kazakhstan to Afghanistan came into force at the beginning of this year. Meeting of NATO logistics specialists will take place on 2 February of this year; at the meeting NATO and partner states will inform about their intentions to use Northern LOC. Considering these intentions, it is relevant to make a commercial proposal from Lithuania to potential transit countries, by preparing and publishing a presentation on transit possibilities via Klaipėda Seaport and Lithuanian railways. To that effect, on 26 January 2010 a meeting regarding possibility to transport the NATO transit cargo via Klaipėda Seaport was held in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania.
